ABIEIÉ PORTAL: African Brazilian Dance Masterclass w/ IRINEU NOGUEIRA @irineunogueira + traditional & newly created African rhythms held by DEMBIS THIOUNG @dembisthioung

Irineu opened ABIEIÉ in Brazil over a decade ago, an energetic portal where participants connect with the spirit of African-Brazilian history & rich culture through movement, voice, sounds and rhythms.  During his 8 year chapter in London, Irineu connected with Senegalese traditional percussionist artist Dembis Thioung offering weekly sessions at The Place & Siobhan Davies, growing & expanding the Abieié family until he moved  to Munich in 2019. During this time-less capsule many movements were downloaded and incorporated, traditional African rhythms were played, new rhythms and connections were created and the family kept expanding and growing, always sharing the respect & love amongst all. Once a year Irineu comes back to UK and we open the portal for all to join.

BENE TALLY BAND & PENCHMI VILLAGE PERFORMANCE: Home-Raiser Event. Building a home for our living culture.

BENE TALLY is the name of Dembis Thioung's neighbourhood in the heart of Dakar/Senegal/West Africa. It literally translates as ONE WAY or one road.

BENE TALLY band, a self-funded project initiated in Oct19, brings people together through music, dance and chant in London.

Rooted in the dundun drum and the West African traditions, the band blends Dembis' Griot and Bayefall heritage , fostering creative collaborations between PENCHMI Dundunfolas & Djembefola students and master African artists. Every performance is unique and magical.

This transformative journey invites also audience participation, connecting individuals and communities, inducing trance-like states, and offering the healing benefits of West African wisdom.

The PENCHMI VILLAGE : The word PENCHMI (in Wolof is written as “Penccmi”) is used to describe the gathering of ancestors, transcending time and space, as well as the gathering of the elders of the traditional Senegalese villages, in the center of the community under a baobab tree. Penchmi is the space to discuss matters of LIFE, FREEDOM, and PEACE. Most importantly, it serves to remind us of the LOVE and RESPECT shared among each other.

Come prepared to drum, dance and joyfully sweat, allowing your spirit to soar high by connecting through ancestral rhythms, songs, and African wisdom channelled by Dembis Thioung.

Dembis takes pride in being guided by the highest Senegalese value of "TERANGA": welcoming, sharing and supporting each other in happiness always, valuing wealth not for its quantity but for the generosity extended to others. "TERANGA" represents the essence of Senegalese culture and it can be translated with the word hospitality.

📍KINGS HALL COMMUNITY CENTRE IN WILLESDEN (NEW LOCATION) 155 Harlesden road, NW10 2BS  (Willesden - Kensal Rise - Harlesden): Rooted in over 75 years of community spirit, King's Hall is one of Britain's earliest community centres, a historic gathering place in Willesden Green dedicated to bringing people together through culture, creativity, shared experiences and community life.
