ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Abdul Conteh is the Director of Herts Drum Meetup (formerly African Village, Camden Town), a UK-based organisation dedicated to bringing the power of drumming to schools, festivals, and community spaces across the country. He is also the founder of the Afro-Phyto Cultural & Wellness Festival, now entering its second edition in 2026.

A respected and well-loved figure on the UK festival circuit, Abdul has contributed to gatherings such as WOMAD, Into the Wild, LoveJam, All About Love, Elementary Festival, and Medicine Festival. Through his work, he shares a deep connection to rhythm, culture, and community across England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.

His work is rooted in a passion for community, with a strong focus on inclusion and creating spaces where people of all abilities can come together through music and shared experience.

He is now expanding this vision through immersive retreat journeys to The Gambia, inviting participants to experience the richness of West African culture through music, food, traditions, and connection to the land. These retreats also support Sona Jobarteh’s Gambian Academy, a charity dedicated to nurturing young musicians and supporting the next generation of talent.
