Event Description

Join us in celebrating Haiti’s Flag Day at South Norwood Lake!

Celebrate Haitian Flag Day with us on Sunday 17 May 2026 at South Norwood Lake, South London.

Haitian Flag Day (18th May) commemorates the creation of the Haitian flag in 1803 during the revolutionary fight for independence. More than a national symbol, the flag represents unity, resilience, and the triumph of freedom.

Haiti holds a unique place in world history as the first independent Black republic and the first nation to permanently abolish slavery through a successful revolution. Flag Day is celebrated across Haiti and throughout the diaspora with music, cultural performances, poetry, and community gatherings.

🌿 2026 Theme: Nature, Heritage & Cultural Roots

This year’s festival highlights the richness and diversity of Haitian artistic expression, bringing together performers representing music, dance, poetry, and visual art.

🎭 Featured Artists Include:

  • Claude Saturne – Musician and conch shell player
  • Ted Beaubrun (with guitarist Theo) – Internationally renowned drummer and cultural ambassador
  • Haitian Mack – Rapper and fine artist performing live
  • Bijou Mckenson – Poet bringing spoken word to the celebration
