Event Description

We are delighted to invite you to the Afro Dance Workshop with Steven, Caroline & Tshamala, accompanied by live music.

This workshop will highlight Ndombolo rhythms and dance steps and their diversity. Discover, learn, and enjoy modern African dances taught by experienced dancers and teachers.

Steven is the Founder, Choreographer, and Artistic Director of @motemafrobeat, originally from the Republic of Congo. His love for the choreographic arts officially began over a decade ago, when he decided to create classes aimed at moving the body to the frequency of different African rhythms.

Bringing together a mix of traditional and modern Bantu-inspired dances, Steven’s classes encourage self-expression while staying rooted in rhythm. In 2021, he graduated from the renowned École des Sables in Senegal, after a 3 years intense study on African Contemporary and Traditional Dances.

Steven has traveled, taught, and performed a variety of African dance styles in countries such as Mozambique, Senegal, Brazil, Belgium, France, the USA, the UK, and many others... His energy is electric, and his classes are very welcoming to beginners! Come and experience it for yourself.

Caroline was born and raised in France from a multicultural background with Spanish, Lebanese & Mexican roots. Dance has always been part of her life and a way of connecting with herself and with people.

Starting off as a passion, she gradually started working in different environments where she would showcase her art for various artists, brands or private customers, mostly as a dancer, and more recently as a choreographer and teacher.

Her passion for dancing, her attention to detail, along with her love for sharing with others are what shapes Caroline’s teaching. Come shake a leg!

MOVE TO THE BEAT

We’re keeping the other special guests a surprise… If you don’t want to suffer from FOMO, we invite you to get your tickets as soon as possible. Fun is guaranteed!

The workshop will cover the choreographic deconstruction of trending Afro dance moves, fundamentals of African Urban and Traditional Dances, and of course Motema’s signature dance style. The first half will be an “easy” warm-up and breakdown of different movements, and in the second half we will learn a fun, easy-to-remember Ndombolo choreography.
