Event Description

Are you looking to reconnect to your culture in a fun, accessible way?

Want to bring your whole self to the space in great company?

Do you want more than a chill drink in the sun and a kool dJ from your cultural events?

Perhaps you're not the festival type or you enjoy forming great bonds with a close knit group of women and learning from people that really know their stuff at the same time...

Well we are no ordinary folkloric or commercial class...

We specialise in reconnecting you to ALL of your strength, power and cultural heritage. We don't care what you look like, where you are from, how much you know or what you do for a job. We just want you to be able to get high quality transmission from practitioners that are passionate about authentic, heart-centered practice. We put island women- front and centre with intentionality. It's not about putting on a show it's about radical JOY as resistance!

It’s for you if :

✨ You want to learn a unique combination of new skills that encompasses dance and VOICE from an experienced teacher and leading performer.

✨You’d like to connect with and learn about authentic Mauritian heritage including learning/Improving Kreol in a fun accessible way.

✨ You’d enjoy meeting other island women from the Indian Ocean and beyond to have some fun!

✨You want to try an ‘Afro’ dance style that has NEVER been professionally taught in the UK… and has HUGE positive effects on wellbeing.

✨You’d like to benefit from a non competitive environment to learn about and express your heritage.

About Levels: Wherever you are at with it and whatever YOU choose to do with it- we’ve got you! Total beginners get a solid grounding in style. Experienced dancers- up-level your choreography skill & work with precision.

*Relevant context*

You may have heard of the Jamaican Maroons but have you heard of the Maroons of Mauritius? Mauritian maroons were the largest group of emancipated freedom fighters in the Indian Ocean and were symbols of cultural diversity and team work against oppression- so it’s no surprise the warrior spirit is strong in Mauritian people!

Now, we’re bringing this unique and multi-racial culture that is rarely spoken about to you through performance and education in a thrilling and fun format from someone who has made it their life's work. We are the first and only workshop to focus on this side of our heritage- you will not find this combination of skill or knowledge anywhere else.
